On November 9th, I was honored to be invited as a guest by Food Lifeline to the National Philanthropy Day luncheon. What an incredible group of people who give up so much of themselves to give to others. It was inspiring. The holidays are a hard time for many. Volunteering is such a great way to be involved, meet people and help those who need it. My wish for you and everyone this holiday is that you find what is fulfilling for you and go for it! Tomorrow I get the honor and privilege to volunteer at the Friends of the Children Seattle, Inspiring Greatness event. As we prepare for their special event, I am reminded of a story: I have been reading with a little one from the Friends of the Children program every Thursday for over a year now. A few weeks ago, she had a hard time reading the word “friend”, I encouraged her to sound it out and she just couldn’t get it. I said, “I will give you a hint, what are you and I?” She looked at me with her pretty brown eyes and said “family?” …she is my reason to get involved, its changed my whole outlook on life and hope.

This year’s Dress Down Hunger event for Food Lifeline was in their brand new Hunger Solution Center and it was AMAZING! They raised over $250,000. That is enough money to provide over 1 million meals to the hungry! I was honored to work with their marketing team on the design of the event and it was so cool to see it all come to life. This year, I was invited by a board member, and friend, to be a guest! I got to meet some of the most amazing chef’s in Seattle and Chef Thierry Rautureau kissed my cheek! I think I will head over and have a celebratory Blood Mary at Loulay this weekend, they are incredible!

What better way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of my high school graduation than to be around these three fun, hopeful, excited youth who just graduated high school. I was honored to come volunteer and watch them celebrate at the annual Friends of the Children graduation ceremony. I know these three will go far. Volunteering with the youth at this incredible organization has truly changed me. Their motto is “no matter what”, they never give up on their youth. Because of that, these kids grow up to be successful, amazing, young adults like the three you see above. Ahhh! I remember being that excited to take on the world….what a great feeling! Congrats!

I’ll be the first to admit it, I have two left feet. But a year and a half ago, I discovered the coolest hip hop class at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center located in White Center, just outside of Seattle. I loved it so much, I went by myself every week until my friend Joe discovered it too. Now we are hip hop regulars! As fate would have it, because I braved the dance floor, I had the pleasure of meeting David Bestock, the director of Youngstown and the Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association. I was so honored when he asked me to work with him and his awesome team on the Destination Delridge celebration. What an amazing evening full of friends, libations…and of course dancing. Here’s to taking risks and finding new passions.
